Bruce Spang, librettist
Bruce Spang, former Poet Laureate of Portland, Maine, and English teacher, just published a novel The Deception of the Thrush. He is working on a new book about teachers to incorporate creative writing in the new standards based curriculum, Putting the Art Back in Language Arts. He wrote a libretto, Charlie! A musical drama about a 24 year gay man who was murder by 3 teens in Bangor. He is author of seven books of poems including his latest Boy at the Screen Door (Moon Pie Press, 2014), To the Promised Land Grocery (Moon Pie Press, 2008), I Have Walked though Many Lives: Young Voices—Scarborough (Moon Pie, Press 2009) and The Knot, (Snow Drift Press, 2005), Tip End of Time (Snow Drift Press, 2004). In addition to composing, Tom Wallace has performed, directed, taught, and coached since graduating with a Masters in Music from University of Maryland, College Park, MD in 1991. He spends most of his time composing and recording in his Portland, Maine studio. In 2012 Tom released a CD recording entitled "Drawn of Dream", music written to accompany meditation, yoga, and massage. "Songs of Loss & Love," words by Terry Quinn, is a Music Theater work still in development; it has been enjoyed in several concert and workshop productions in NYC.
